Allow me to introduce myself; I am Dr. Liz, a dedicated equine veterinarian and the Founder of Equine Therapies in Franklin, Massachusetts. With a career spanning several decades, I have had the privilege of serving in various capacities, from the racetrack to private barns, equine-assisted therapy programs in the community, The State Police mounted unit, and even the most prestigious horse shows in the country. This diverse experience has honed my skills and deepened my understanding of equine health and well-being.
My practice focus is problem-solving when horses are uncomfortable or not performing at their best. Every patient and owner is different. I can evaluate a sports medicine-related issue or be asked to determine why a horse is attacking others, isn’t eating, or has stopped lying down to sleep. Like humans, their behaviors are unfortunately dictated by pain. I am truly honored when asked to help a horse suffering from hidden physical discomfort. The biggest reward is being able to alleviate their pain. I can see the gratitude in their eyes and the eyes of their human caretakers. It is incredibly moving and rewarding to me.
I have X horses, and I am an avid amateur competitor on the X circuit, which takes me to Florida in the winter and competitions in the Northeast the rest of the year. I love my job. It is my passion and extraordinarily rewarding on many different levels.
Our country’s history is intertwined with the noble presence of horses. Their role has evolved from being our work partners to now bringing us joy and selflessly aiding in therapy programs. After 32 years as a veterinarian, I am still in awe of their kindness and unbridled generosity. This admiration for horses drives me to provide the best possible care for them. I feel very fortunate, indeed.
